A true story, and still true in 2026. An eight person product team, everyone a three year veteran who can jump on database, middleware, UI, the report generator, even testing. They need two or three more like that. The job ad has been live for ten months. Nobody fits.
Sound familiar? Here is why.
The profile you want does not exist outside your company
The exact combination of technologies and context you are asking for is not used anywhere else. No one outside your walls has it, except perhaps a competitor.
"Then we will just nearshore it." Also no.
A successful nearshore provider is optimised for three things: recruit from a large pool, have experts ready quickly, and avoid people sitting on the bench. A hyper specific allrounder is the opposite of what they can offer on demand. Recruiting that profile is needle in a haystack work, slow and expensive, and if you scale down later the engineer has nowhere to go. Service firms know this, so they do not stock it.
AI made this sharper, not softer
AI tooling lets a smaller team do more, but it raises the bar on the humans. You need senior people who can direct, review and architect, not more generalists. Cloning your best engineer was always a fantasy. In 2026 the thing you are actually short of is senior judgment, and that is exactly what you cannot copy and paste.
What actually scales
There is no quick fix. The real move is to reorganise: let your allrounders specialise and build subject matter depth, document and onboard around those areas, and bring in a new member, employed or nearshore, with a realistic, focused skill set who joins a subject matter team. A few nearshore firms will even coach you through that shift while delivering a real project. Most will not. That is one of the things worth checking before you sign.
